Title: Seminary Lecturer at ESSA
Location: Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal
Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Theology
Experience: Teaching experience in Higher Education is preferred
Language: English
Contract duration: 1 year, renewable

ESSA’s learning model is built on a block release model with 36 modules offered over 4 years. Modules consist of a combination of semi-independent learning off-campus, facilitated on a Moodle platform, and contact teaching on campus. As theological educators, lecturers are integrally involved in the teaching and administration of these modules, by interacting with students and monitoring their progress on Moodle, teaching 30 hours of face-to-face sessions per module, and evaluating assessments.

A lecturer is primarily expected to teach modules in their area of expertise (Bible, tradition, or ministry as per ESSA’s streams of learning), with the possibility of promotion to Head of Department. Secondary responsibilities may be added based on the successful applicant’s expertise, for instance in administration, internal quality assurance, or IT.
